LEARN: My advice to anyone who doesn’t know what role they fit into is to try out different areas until you find something that you really like. As an intern at JWT, I took part in many projects: from strategy, to account, and project management. It allowed me to be well-rounded with a breadth of information across a few departments within my agency. It has also helped me decide what role I’m most passionate about.
DECIDE: Once I knew each role’s specific tasks, I was able to decide which area I think was best for me – account management. Account management can be a tricky position to learn. The best way to become a good account manager is to closely shadow your superiors, and if you can, try and only work on a couple accounts. That way, you can really develop your skill set and learn their business.
DIVE-IN: Once you have decided what you really want to focus on, dive-in. Don’t be afraid to take on something out of your comfort zone. You never know – you could be really good at it!
